Which is the Best Filler to Treat Marionette Lines?

Though commonly referred to as “laugh lines,” marionette lines (nasolabial folds) are not caused by years of laughing. These creases or folds form around your lower mouth as part of the natural aging process and can make you look sad and tired and older.

Genetics can play a role in how prominent they become, with some individuals developing a degree of marionette lines during childhood. At New York Skin & Vein Center, we use wrinkle fillers to support the natural fat pads in your temples, cheeks, and lower mouth to restore the natural shape of your face.

Wrinkle Fillers

Wrinkle fillers (also called dermal fillers) are non-surgical injectables that stimulate your body’s natural collagen production to restore lost volume in your face due to age or genetics. All fillers improve collagen production and bring moisture to the area contributing to a plump and youthful appearance. Some of the most commonly used fillers are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) which includes the Restylane family, Poly-L-lactic Acid which is Sculptra, Calcium hydroxylapatite which is known as Radiesse, and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) which is known as Bellafill.

Why Bellafill Over Other Dermal Fillers

If all fillers seemingly provide the same results, why does New York Skin & Vein Center prefer Bellafill? While the results may be similar, Bellafill lasts much longer than its counterpartsBellafill patients have reported results lasting upwards of 7 years or even longer, whereas the results of other fillers vary from 6 months to 3 years. Bellafill is especially good for treating marionette lines, as well as other wrinkles and scars.

How Bellafill Works

Bellafill is a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) filler with bovine collagen. The PMMA provides long-term structure under your skin and stimulates your own natural collagen over several years. As the bovine collagen is absorbed, your body responds to the PMMA and generates new collagen. This combination is what gives Bellafill it’s long-lasting effects.

Bellafill Results

You can expect immediate results with Bellafill, but most patients require 2-3 treatments over a few months for optimal results. You will experience continued improvements over the months following treatment as your body creates new collagen in the treated area.

Minimal bruising and swelling is normal and should subside over a few days. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately, but taking a day off from exercise and strenuous activities is recommended.

Which Dermal Filler Treatment is Right for Me?

It’s important to choose the right treatment for you before committing to results that could last for months or years. Understanding the differences between fillers, as well as the benefits and risks of each, can help you make an informed decision. A consult with Dr. Dohner or his well-trained injection nurses at New York Skin & Vein Center is the best way to get your questions answered and determine your aesthetic goals. He will evaluate your health and address your concerns before recommending a custom treatment plan.
