With over 26 years of experience, you know you’re in good hands when you choose Eric Dohner, MD, ABVLM.
Acne can form on the face for different reasons. During puberty, an increase in hormones called androgens cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge, which produces more oil and can cause acne in both males and females. Additionally, hormone shifts during pregnancy can cause acne to form. Some people may have an additional predisposition to acne due to their genetics. Regardless of the cause, Dr. Dohner and his team have acne treatments that can help improve your acne.
The first step is to schedule an in-person consultation with one of our highly trained providers at New York Skin & Vein Center located in Oneonta, NY, serving the surrounding New York areas with additional offices in Norwich, Binghamton, and Hamilton.

Medications and medical-grade acne skincare such as ZO Skin Health can smooth mild to moderate acne for adults and teenagers alike. More severe acne can be treated with Accutane as needed. Patients seeking non-drug options for mild to moderate conditions may want to consider BLU-U Light Therapy which can reduce acne by 30-70% in just a month.
While exact results will vary depending on the treatment, you can expect to see improvement in the appearance of existing acne as well as fewer breakouts overall. Some treatments will have results appear more quickly, like BLU-U Light Therapy, but others may take more time. It can take 1-2 months following beginning Accutane for results to begin appearing. Dr. Dohner and his team will explain at the beginning of your treatment when you can expect to start seeing results.
No, you should not expect any downtime from acne treatments. It’s possible that the acne will get worse before it gets better, especially with Accutane. You may also experience some skin dryness as your body gets used to the treatment. However, all of these are temporary and will subside over time.
