Which Dermal Filler Lasts the Longest?

Whether you are bothered by lines and wrinkles, hollow cheeks, or thin lips, dermal fillers are an effective way to restore or boost facial volume. These injectable treatments can address a wide range of concerns to help you achieve a smoother, more sculpted appearance. While all dermal fillers are temporary, some options last longer than others.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a group of injectable treatments used to add volume to your facial features. They use a range of biologically safe materials that either add volume immediately or prompt your body to increase volume through collagen production. Popular areas for these treatments include the cheeks, lips, and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, but they have many other uses.

Which Dermal Filler Lasts the Longest?

Many factors go into determining which dermal fillers are best for your needs and goals. While the longest-lasting filler may be perfect for some people, others may benefit from a shorter-lasting but more appropriate filler for their concerns.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

The most common filler material, hyaluronic acid, is used in several of the most widely used fillers, including Juvederm®, Restylane®, Belotero Balance®, and Revanesse® Versa. These versatile fillers can be used for the lips, cheeks, deep wrinkles, and fine lines around the mouth.

Lip fillers typically last six months to a year, while other hyaluronic acid fillers usually last one to two years

Poly-L-Lactic Acid

Poly-L-lactic acid does not add immediate volume like hyaluronic acid fillers. Instead, it provides a scaffold that your body uses to build new collagen, enhancing volume over time. Sculptra® is most often used for lines and wrinkles, although it can be used in other areas as well.

The collagen produced means this filler typically lasts about two years.

Calcium hydroxylapatite

This mineral is naturally found in your body. It is used in Radiesse®, a dense dermal filler appropriate for deep lines and wrinkles, especially in the cheek and mouth area. It contains microspheres of the calcium compound suspended in a gel.

This compound triggers collagen production for volume that usually lasts about two years

Collagen and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)

When used as a dermal filler, PMMA comes in tiny microspheres that boost volume and provide support while promoting collagen production. Bellafill® is most often used to correct lines, wrinkles, deep acne scars, and many other concerns.

The PMMA microspheres and the collagen produced let this filler last up to five years or even longer, making it by far the longest-lasting filler material.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

With such a wide range of filler materials available, we almost certainly have an option that will work for you. While not everyone is a good candidate for Bellafill® and its five years of results, almost all healthy adults can receive dermal fillers. You should not have injections in an area where you have an active skin condition or infection.
