What You Can Expect After Laser Hair Removal

Shaving, waxing, and plucking hair you don’t want is annoying in so many ways. It costs money to remove, wastes time, and only lasts a few days or weeks. With laser hair removal, you can forget about removing unwanted hair for years at a time. With long-lasting results and no downtime, laser hair removal makes an excellent choice for anyone ready to put other hair removal methods behind them.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Most of us, male or female, have unwanted facial or body hair. Whether you shave your legs, wax your chest, or pluck facial hairs, it’s uncomfortable and tedious. Laser hair removal makes getting rid of unwanted hair easy and long-lasting, freeing you from the hair removal cycle.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The Excel® HR provides efficient, painless hair removal, and its dual laser wavelengths work on all lighter and darker skin tones. The laser targets the pigments that give hair its color. Hair roots grow from tiny sacs called follicles. When the laser energy reaches the pigment in the hair root, it creates heat, damaging the follicle and preventing it from regrowing hair.

What to Expect After Laser Hair Removal

Immediately after treatment, your skin may look red and feel sensitive or sore. This often looks and feels like a minor sunburn. You can expect this to go away in a day or two. The Excel® HR targets the hair only while leaving the skin unaffected, so you don’t have downtime. We recommend that you wear sunscreen and avoid sun exposure to the affected area while it recovers. You will see less hair after each laser hair removal session.

How Should I Prepare For My Next Laser Hair Removal Session?

You can maximize the effectiveness of your treatment by following a few recommendations before each session:

  • Avoid plucking, waxing, or any other method that pulls out the hair root
  • Do not bleach hair you want to have removed
  • Shave whenever you want, but definitely the day before treatment
  • Avoid tanning or excess sun exposure

What Results Will I See With Laser Hair Removal?

Most people need two to six treatments,  to see a substantial decrease in hair, although you may need more. Individual hair growth patterns affect how quickly hair removal will work. When hair spends time in a resting state, it remains invisible to the laser. Each treatment waits for more follicles to enter the active growth phase so the laser can treat them. You can remain hair-free for a year or more. Any regrowth looks thin and sparse, and maintenance treatments once a year will eliminate it.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Most people with unwanted facial or body hair make good candidates for laser hair removal. You might not be a good candidate if you have blond, red, grey or white hair. Very light hair may not have enough pigment for the laser to work effectively.
