What are the Symptoms of Varicose Veins?
The most common symptoms of varicose veins include aching, throbbing, tiredness, heaviness, aching, and itching. However, they have other symptoms you may not know about, such as restless leg syndrome, painful leg cramps, and neuropathy that can cause tingling and numbness. Also rashes, ulcers and clots are frequently caused by an underlying vein problem, even if you don’t have any veins on the skin surface. If you have any of these symptoms, you should see a vein specialist.
How Are Varicose Veins Treated?
At New York Skin and Vein, Dr. Dohner offers a range of treatments for your varicose veins. One or more of these three treatments will solve varicose vein problems for most people.
Endovenous Laser Treatments (EVLT)
This treatment uses focused laser energy to close off blood supply to the problem vein, diverting blood to flow through other veins. The body will absorb the remaining pigment, leaving the skin looking clearer.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
This treatment uses tiny openings to pull out and remove the problem veins. This allows for immediate visual improvement and can also quickly improve symptoms.
Varithena
Often used for challenging or treatment-resistant veins, this treatment uses an FDA-approved medication injected into the vein. This causes the vein walls to collapse, redirecting blood flow to healthy veins.
Is There Any Downtime After Varicose Vein Treatment?
Most varicose vein treatments have minimal downtime and allow you to go on with your usual activities. You may need to wear a compression garment to help collapse the treated veins.
