How Many Units of Dysport® Do You Need for Your Forehead?

If you have expression lines caused by the natural motions of your facial muscles, a wrinkle relaxer can quiet these muscles and give you smooth, wrinkle-free skin. You have several options for wrinkle relaxers, including Dysport®, which gives your injection specialist at New York Skin and Vein: now part of Schweiger Dermatology Group the ability to choose the best formula for you.

What is Dysport®?

You may see wrinkle relaxers such as Dysport® and Botox® described as neurotoxins. However, these substances are not toxic to your body in the tiny amounts used for medical or cosmetic treatments. Instead, they interfere with the nerve signals that tell the facial muscles to contract thereby putting the muscles to sleep that cause wrinkles.

How Many Units of Dysport® Do You Need For Your Forehead?

Injectable treatments such as Dysport® are often measured in units or in syringes. You may need anywhere from 20 to 90 units of Dysport® in your forehead area. This varies depending on the depth of your wrinkles, the results you want to see, and your individual reaction to the treatment.

How Does Dysport® Work?

Your injection specialist will use Dysport® to target the facial muscles causing your expression lines and wrinkles. These most often include the lines between the brows (glabellar lines), horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes, but wrinkle relaxers work in many areas of the face. Dysport® and other wrinkle relaxers use botulinum toxin, which targets nerves that control facial muscles. It stops the nerve from signaling the muscle to contract. Without muscle contractions, the skin can relax and look smoother.

How Much Does Dysport® Cost?

At New York Skin and Vein: now part of Schweiger Dermatology Group, we do not charge by the unit for treatment. Instead, we charge by the area which we will treat. The forehead area, then, will cost the same regardless of how many units you require. This allows us to keep our pricing transparent and fair, and it will enable us to choose the best formula and number of units for you without having to calculate costs per unit.

What is the Difference Between Dysport® and Botox®?

These two wrinkle relaxers both use botulinum toxin, so they work in the same way. They both last three to four months after treatment, although Dysport® results may appear a day or two sooner than Botox®. The slight differences between the formulas of Botox® and Dysport® make them behave somewhat differently when injected. Dysport® has a “feathering” effect that makes it spread out from the injection site, helping to treat a larger area and provide more natural-looking, smoother results.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dysport®?

If you have ever had a wrinkle relaxer treatment before or have been considering a way to get rid of deep expression lines and wrinkles, Dysport® might make a perfect choice for you. Our injection specialists have experience using several types of wrinkle relaxers and will help you choose the best one for your needs.
