How are Spider Veins Treated?
The best treatment for your spider veins depends on their size and location. Dr. Eric Dohner at New York Skin & Vein Centers specializes in vein treatments. He may use a combination of treatments to achieve the desired results.
Sclerotherapy
This preferred treatment provides an efficient option for treating large areas of spider veins. Dr. Dohner injects the spider veins with a solution that causes them to collapse, stopping blood flow. We use FDA approved medications to treat the veins (not hypertonic saline which is painful and can cause severe side effects). It is important to find the feeder veins that cause the surface spider veins to get the best final outcome. Repeated treatments may be needed to see the results you want.
VeinGogh
This treatment works even on tiny spider veins. Dr. Dohner also uses it to treat spider veins that remain after other methods. It uses microburst technology that usually eliminates the problem of spider veins in just one treatment.
How Long Does Spider Vein Treatment Last?
You will most likely need several treatments to entirely eliminate your spider veins. Large clusters of spider veins can take the longest time to remove. Sclerotherapy sessions are usually scheduled four to six weeks apart until you are happy with your results.
Treated spider veins never grow back. However, you may develop new ones over time. We recommend a maintenance session every 18 to 24 months. This treatment will address new spider veins as they appear and keep your skin clear and even.
