What Treatments are Available for My Spider Veins?

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that is highly effective in collapsing spider veins of the legs. Sclerotherapy is the most popular choice when it comes to removing spider veins because it is fast, well tolerated, can treat large areas in a short time, and is the most economical option. The process entails a number of micro-injections directly into the visible vein. Dr. Dohner uses several different advanced technologies and techniques to ensure the best outcome with the least number of sessions.

What is Excel V Laser Treatment?

The Excel V laser uses two different wavelengths of light to treat spider veins. The wavelength we use depends on the location of the spider veins as well as their color and size. The focused laser light penetrates the surface of the skin, heating up problem veins and sealing them shut.

Sclerotherapy or the Excel V Laser: Which is Best?

Sclerotherapy is known for being the gold standard treatment for spider veins on your legs while the Excel V laser is typically used on the face and body. The Excel V is also used on the tiniest of spider veins on the legs that do not respond to sclerotherapy.

How Long Does Each Treatment Take?

In most cases, your in-office procedure can be completed in less than 60 minutes. Different treatment methods, along with the severity of your condition, and how many veins are being addressed, will contribute to the exact time of your treatment.

What Results Can I Expect?

You will notice improvement within 3-5 days of your initial treatment. Sclerotherapy treatments are done approximately every 4-6 weeks until your goals have been reached.

Is There Any Downtime?

There is little to no downtime with either treatment. Any side effects should subside within one week. Dr. Dohner will provide detailed recovery instructions, and may recommend wearing compression socks or stockings for up to two days following your procedure.

Am I A Good Candidate For Spider Vein Removal?

Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of spider veins may be good candidates for either Sclerotherapy or Excel V laser treatment. Patients considering sclerotherapy should commit to a series of at least three sessions if they’d like to see significant results. Laser treatments are better suited for those who are prone to allergic reactions to medications.
