How Long Does Laser Tattoo Removal Take?

If you have an unwanted tattoo, it may bother you even when you can’t see it. Laser tattoo removal eliminates this problem tattoo from your mind and your skin. This effective treatment will remove your tattoo over several treatments so you never see your unwelcome tattoo again.

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Tattoo ink lasts because the pigments are too large for your body to remove. Laser tattoo removal uses laser energy to break up tattoo pigments. After absorbing laser energy, these pigments break into fragments that your body can filter away. We offer the Enlighten™ laser, an advanced system that produces better results in fewer treatments.

How Long Does Laser Tattoo Removal Take?

Laser tattoo removal is a process that can take several months. We guarantee that if your tattoo takes more than eight sessions to remove, you will not pay for future sessions. However, each tattoo removal is unique. Factors that affect how long your tattoo removal takes include:

  • The size of your tattoo
  • How heavily the ink was applied
  • The ink colors (the Enlighten™ removes more colors than other lasers)
  • Whether you have a professional or amateur tattoo
  • How long you have had your tattoo

Amateur and aging tattoos are closer to the surface, often making removal faster. Black and dark colors are easier to remove than bright colors, although the Enlighten™ laser will remove all colors. Most people need between two and eight sessions to remove their unwanted tattoos. With a wait of four to six weeks between treatments, the process usually takes a few months.

What to Expect During Laser Tattoo Removal

We keep you comfortable during your appointment by applying numbing cream, and we offer numbing injections if needed. Most people feel little to no discomfort, although you may notice some warmth. We also use a cold air system to reduce the heat for your comfort. Most people do not need anything except numbing cream to feel comfortable throughout the treatment. However, especially sensitive people have several options to make treatment even easier.

Is There Any Downtime After Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser tattoo removal allows you to return to your normal activities immediately. While there is no downtime, you will need to follow instructions on how to care for treated skin. You will apply antibiotic cream a few times a day, and you may notice redness and small blisters that last a few days. Your skin will be extremely sun-sensitive between treatments, so avoid exposure and use sun protection.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Tattoo Removal?

Most people with unwanted tattoos make good candidates for laser tattoo removal. However, candidates should have reasonable expectations about their results and how long the process will take. You may not be a good candidate if you have a skin condition affecting the area or other medical conditions.
