How to Smooth Your Acne Scars

You did it – you finally got rid of your acne breakouts. But unfortunately, you’re still not thrilled with the look of your skin. That’s because you still have acne scars from past breakouts – and unlike acne, there didn’t seem to be too many treatments available to get rid of acne scars.

If that’s the case, it’s time to smooth away your acne scars for good with New York Skin & Vein Centers’s menu of acne and acne scar removal treatments.

Discover Our Menu of Acne Scar Removal Treatments

1. Retin-A for topical acne scar removal.

Perhaps one of the most effective solutions for smoothing away acne scarring is Retin-A (also referred to as Tretinoin). This Vitamin-A solution is prescription-only, and used to turn over the skin faster for noticeable scar removal.

This medication is also an excellent solution for fading away wrinkles and fine lines, meaning regular use of this topical cream can give you the smoothest, clearest skin ever.

2. Subcision of older acne scars.

If you have older acne scars that appear depressed (aka they look like saucers in your skin), you may be a good candidate for a subcision. This acne scarring treatment involves breaking up the scar tissue underneath the treatment area. Once this tissue is broken up, it essentially “releases” the depressed scar, resulting in almost-immediate smoothing.

From there, you can continue to fade it away with any of our other acne scar removal options.

3. Chemical peels.

Chemical peels are excellent choices if you want to treat multiple acne scars at once. A chemical peel is a good option if you have more than one of the three types of acne scars and pigment problems too.

Some scars can be improved with the ZO 3 Step Peel, which can be done every few months. Some clients may see their best results with a strong chemical peel, which will require some downtime.

4. CO2 Laser Resurfacing.

The CO2 laser works on box car scars and pigmented areas from acne too. It is the most powerful treatment and requires some downtime after a treatment. The amount of downtime can be tailored to your individual needs.

5. Pixel Radiofrequency Microneedling

Pixel is now considered “The Holy Grail” of Skin Rejuvenation and also works well on scars. Tiny sterile stainless steel needles penetrate your skin to stimulate areas of collagen to smooth out your scar while evening out the color too.
