How Safe is Laser Hair Removal?

If you’re sick and tired of shaving, waxing, messy creams or stubble, then laser hair removal is just what you want. This almost permanent hair removal option stops hair growth by killing the follicles that grow hair.

New York Skin and Vein: now part of Schweiger Dermatology Group is committed to offering you the safest, most effective solution for hair removal, the Excel HR system. This laser (actually two lasers in one) gives you pain free results with fewer treatments than other lasers available.

The Uniqueness of the Excel® HR System

The Excel® HR system combines the power of the Alexandrite laser and Nd:YAG laser to deliver the safest treatment for all skin types. The Alexandrite laser is ideal for fairer skin, while the Nd:YAG is safest for darker skin tones. Only the pigment in your hair is targeted, reducing the risk of damage to the surrounding skin.

No Pain or Downtime

Most patients compare the sensation of the laser to a mild rubber band snap or even less! A numbing cream and cold air machine are available to prevent any discomfort. The laser’s built-in cooling tip further reduces any discomfort and protects the skin from the heat of the laser. Some patients may experience some redness and swelling of the hair follicles after treatment. These should subside within a few hours. It’s important to avoid sun exposure as this can irritate the skin.

Potential Temporary Side Effects

Some minor side effects are common but usually temporary and subside on their own. They may include:

  • Skin redness and irritation
  • Slight changes in skin color

Rare Side Effects

Very rare side effects of laser hair removal include scars, burns, and blisters. These typically occur in medspas that do not have the highly trained laser nurses that NYSVC does. Scars can occur if a blister or burn happens and are more likely to form if you do not follow our aftercare instructions. It is important to keep the treated areas protected from sunlight. When the experienced laser nurses at New York Skin and Vein: now part of Schweiger Dermatology Group perform your treatment, burns and blisters are vanishingly rare.
