CoolSculpting® vs. Radiofrequency Body Contouring: Which is Better?

Most bodies have a few areas where they store stubborn fat. Whether yours accumulates in your abdomen, thighs, or under your chin, you have non-surgical options for eliminating it. Non-invasive body contouring can provide your slimmer, more sculpted figure

What is Non-Invasive Body Contouring?

Many people have unwanted fat that ignores their attempts to eliminate it. Body contouring is a technique to reduce stubborn fat without surgery. These body sculpting systems come in several forms. Some popular systems use cryolipolysis (freezing fat cells without harming the skin). Others use radiofrequency (RF) energy that heats fat cells to damage them.

CoolSculpting® vs. Radiofrequency Body Contouring: Which is Better?

Your New York Skin & Vein Center team offers several types of body contouring. CoolSculpting® Elite freezes fat cells using temperatures that do not affect the skin. This treatment works on many areas of the body, including the abdomen, arms, and under the chin.

Vanquish ME™ uses radiofrequency energy that transfers heat to fat cells. Radiofrequency energy is widely used to improve the appearance and health of skin non-invasively. It travels to the fat layers at different wavelengths and targets fat cells.

We find that Vanquish ME™ has some significant advantages over CoolSculpting® Elite.

  • Vanquish ME™ radiofrequency energy does not cause the numbing, tingling, or intense cold you may experience with Vanquish ME™.
  • Vanquish ME™ can treat larger areas at the same time, including the difficult abdomen and thigh areas, in a single session.
  • Vanquish ME™ removes more fat than CoolSculpting® Elite with a few 30-minute treatment sessions spaced a week apart.
  • Vanquish ME™ radiofrequency energy triggers collagen production and contracts collagen fibers for tighter skin.
  • Vanquish ME™ can provide dramatic improvements in cellulite and skin laxity, which CoolSculpting® Elite does not treat.

While Vanquish ME™ has several advantages, we still use CoolSculpting® Elite too. Not everyone will be a good candidate for both treatments, and we prefer to offer a wide range of treatments so we can meet your needs in the safest, most effective way.

We also offer ThermiTight®, a minimally invasive skin tightening procedure. It also uses radiofrequency energy that tightens and firms the skin. However, the tightening effects are more powerful since it works from beneath the skin. ThermiTight® can be used alone or with other body sculpting procedures.

Both of these non-invasive treatments require no downtime. You can return to your usual activities immediately. Both treatments may result in minor redness lasting a few hours. CoolSculpting® Elite tends to have more after-effects, such as numbness, tingling, and sensitivity, but these are usually mild.
