How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Laser tattoo removal is the most effective and safe way to remove tattoos. It works using laser energy that affects tattoo pigments but not skin. The pigments absorb the laser energy, breaking them apart into fragments. Tattoos stay on your skin because your body cannot remove the large pigments. However, it can filter away these smaller fragments. Your lymphatic system recognizes and removes these particles, removing more of your tattoo with each treatment.

You will not have downtime after laser tattoo removal and can return to your activities. However, your skin in the treated area will need special care for a few days. You may experience redness, sensitivity, and crusting or blisters. Avoid using harsh products on the area until it heals. Treatment will make your skin very sun-sensitive, so use sun protection and avoid exposure.

You will need four to six weeks between sessions for your skin to heal and your body to remove treated pigments. Older tattoos and those performed by amateurs are closer to the surface and easier to treat. Bright colors often require more sessions than black or dark shades. Each tattoo will fade uniquely.
