The ultrasound energy travels harmlessly through the outer layers of skin and reaches into the dermis. At about 1.5mm deep, SofWave heats the tissues and initiates collagen production. Unlike lasers or microneedling, ultrasound energy does not cause injury to the surface of the skin, resulting in less discomfort and no downtime. SofWave™ can be used as a preventative treatment to maintain high levels of collagen, preventing lines and wrinkles from becoming visible. You are a good candidate if you have some skin elasticity and do not have significant sagging. The treatment can be repeated in a few months if you would like to see greater improvement in your results.
SofWave™ treatment uses a handheld device that administers the ultrasound energy in a cycle lasting a few seconds. During each cycle, the ultrasound energy transfers heat into the skin, which will feel hot, but cooling technology protects the skin and reduces the sensation. Treating the face and jowl area typically takes 60 minutes. Numbing cream is applied to your face to make you comfortable and ProNox (nitrous oxide or laughing gas) is available if you are very sensitive.
