You’ve probably heard of spider veins. Maybe you have them and wonder how to get rid of them or even if it’s healthy to remove them. Different than varicose veins, spider veins are the ugly counterparts that don’t really cause problems but may be the reason you won’t wear skirts, dresses or bathing suits. They range in appearance from tiny, red threads (Telangiectasias) to darker, blue and flat lines (Blue Reticular Veins). Thankfully, spider veins can be removed with a simple in-office procedure with little to no downtime.
Should I Have My Spider Veins Removed?
While spider veins aren’t harmful to the health of your legs, they can be quite distracting and ugly. In rare instances, spider veins can cause localized stinging or burning. Either way, they can be a real confidence killer. But there’s good news, no matter what your reason is for wanting spider veins gone, it’s perfectly safe and healthy to get rid of them.
At New York Skin and Vein Center, we have two state-of-the-art ways of removing spider veins. Dr. Dohner is a vein health expert and has written extensively on the subject. If you’re concerned with your spider veins and don’t know which treatment is ideal for you, Dr. Dohner will help you decide with a simple screening. If you want to know more right away, read on to get a better idea of the options available to you.
What Are My Treatment Options?
Both of our spider vein removal options have their advantages, but it’s a matter of choosing which one is right for you. Depending on the severity of your concerns and the types of veins you have, we recommend sclerotherapy in most cases and 1064 Nd:Yag laser treatments for others. To decide which one you’re best suited for, Dr. Dohner is here to help.
Spider Veins Consultations Available
Sclerotherapy is our most popular option. It is faster, more economical, and more comfortable. By performing a series of microinjections directly into the veins, Dr. Dohner is able to seal the veins shut. Over time, the veins are reabsorbed by your body and the area is cleared of the veins. This treatment works best and fastest for larger areas of spider veins on the legs and for dark blue veins.
1064 Nd:Yag Laser Treatments
For smaller, harder-to-reach veins (or for those that don’t respond to sclerotherapy), we recommend 1064 Nd:Yag laser treatments. By using laser light, Dr. Dohner is able to make the veins vanish by sealing them shut and preventing blood flow. No needles are used in this process. You may be asked to wear compression socks for 24-48 hours after your procedure. Downtime is minimal, and the veins will disappear over time.
What’s Right for Me?
To determine what’s right for you, book a screening with our office. Once you decide the best route for your individual needs, we’re sure you’ll love the results. At NYSVC, we’re here to help you look and feel your best.
I just recently had vein surgery and it went much better than I expected. I was nervous about being awake during the 90 minute procedure but it was really painless. There were a few moments that were a little uncomfortable and one time I told Dr. Dohner that I could feel some discomfort and he immediately made it better. The staff are incredibly friendly and caring. I loved that his nurse Katie who helped during the procedure called to check in on me. Katie went over everything during the pre-op appt and I was very prepared. The recovery has been a breeze and I am using the recommended Dermaka cream and also Arnica pellets and the bruising is getting lighter every day. I am getting the other leg done tomorrow and have no anxiety about it because I completely trust Dr. Dohner’s ability to treat the vein issues I had.
